The Flood (Poem)

But he will be beautiful,
and blue,
all thunder and ocean waves,
still arguing with greater gods,
like an iron spire in a rainstorm.
But you know water,
and have been preparing
for this deluge through all your years.
You are part New Orleans, after all,
and you remember how the levees fail.
You have sandbags at the ready for those floodwaters,
and have slyly learned how to breath underwater
in case of emergencies.
