What will you call her,
name her,
label her?
The banshees you call to bed,
screaming
names,
passing through
revolving doors
spinning in your throat.
You recall by taste.
Is she anyone?
That girl you always leave
in the rain
so you can't see her crying?
Say her name.
Can't?
Cruelty still wet on the tip of your
articulate member.
Guilt not an aftertaste you cough up.
Why be cum such a beast?
Did you call her by a different name?
Is she just anyone?
For the songs that whispered
her scent across your lips,
like smoke signals stacked
and burning
between the lines of lyrics,
what did you call her then?
Is she just anyone?
What was her name
when she left you abandoned
and without love?
Was it revenge that burned
her crime like a brand,
into the torso of every girl you
ever held?
The trial by fire of your heavenly body
raining down rage to make the
feeling of your own shame waft,
like smoke,
up,
and away.
What did you call her last night?
What do you call her today?
Who will she be tomorrow.
Is she just anyone?
Hair and eyes a carnival choice
of mix and match moods.
Is she just anyone?
And truth and trust?
Less to fear than fear,
so she eats the lies you feed,
master to a dog,
once kicked,
she wants to will your toxic
a kindness,
a humane hand.
Yes, to believe you.
But the song echoes.
What was her name again?
Just anyone?
Don't her freckles remind you
of getting close to someone else's smile?
The truth,
manufactured,
reminiscent of another name
you're trying to remember.
Tell me again,
why you hate every woman
you meet,
just because you
don't want to remember.
Tell me her name tonight.
Will she stay to warm the cold topography of your bed?
A forest to be burned like kindling,
twisted in fishnets and lace..
She is just anyone.
Dress her like a doll,
a puppet strung,
strung out,
dangling like a string of pearls.
What's her name tonight?
What's her name?
She is just anyone.
